Swedese was founded in 1945 by brothers Yngve and Jerker Ekström, along with their friend Bertil Sjöqvist. Yngve was the leading figure of the company until his death in 1988. The current owners are Anna Johansson and Julio Patino.
The headquarters are located in Vaggeryd, Småland, where one of Swedese's two factories is also located. The other one is located in Äng, just outside Nässjö.
Swedese's founder Yngve Ekström designed the famous Lamino armchair in 1956, a prime example of timeless design. He designed with the human as the starting point, which resulted in an armchair as pleasant to look at as it is to sit in.
Lamino was named the Furniture of the Century by the magazine "Sköna hem" and can be found in hundreds of homes in both Sweden and around the world. A beloved classic and Swedese's first real success that is often passed down through generations.
"To have made a good chair may not be a bad life's work" – founder and designer Yngve Ekström.
Simplicity and innovation are the company's guiding principles.
Swedese creates furniture and design objects that bring both function and beauty to people's everyday lives. The furniture works in many different contexts and draws its inspiration from both urban environments and Nordic nature.
Swedese offers sofas, chairs, armchairs, stools, shelves like Swedese Libri, tables, and accessories like Swedese Tree.
When Swedese was founded in 1945, quality was the company's guiding principle. The furniture was not only meant to be beautiful, but also designed to be passed down from generation to generation. In the past, sustainability was simply referred to as quality – pride was taken in the craftsmanship, the lines, and the materials. Seventy years later, Swedese operates on the same principle, with a focus on people and the environment around them.
Swedese's furniture is manufactured in their own factories in Småland, just as when the company was established over 75 years ago. Even today, classic pieces like the Lamino armchair require the same craftsmanship in the manufacturing process as in the 1950s. They also now employ modern techniques that provide the opportunity to realize other exciting ideas!
A genuine Swedese armchair is the Lamino armchair, which is also Swedese's best-selling product. In Swedese's range, you'll also find the Swedese sofa, which can be paired with both the armchair and the Swedese coffee table. It's worth checking out
