Skagerak is a Danish brand that is known for their high-quality furniture and interior accessories which is designed to last for generations. Their products are characterised by their solid craftmanship, ageless aesthetic and responsible production.
While they are most recognised for their high-quality furniture, their assortment also includes a selection of other interior products such as lighting, decorative accessories and storage solutions.
The family business Skagerak was established in 1976 and has since produced furniture and home accessories with a classic Nordic quality, inspired by the beautiful environment in Skagen, Denmark.
The name of the Danish brand comes from the strait ‘Skagerrak’ which connects Denmark to the surrounding Nordic countries and which has played an important part in the development of the region.
Here at Nordic Nest, you will be able to find a large assortment of furniture and interior items from Skagerak from chairs and stools to storage boxes and lamps.
Skagerak is actively working to create products in a sustainable way that take both humans and nature into consideration. They have a strong focus on creating durable and high-quality products that will stay in good condition for years to come.
Skagerak encourages everyone to think more carefully about where and how the products are made and is therefore open about where all their materials come from, how they are made and under what conditions.
Skagerak have also developed a number of ethical guidelines that both themselves and their suppliers should follow. The guidelines include fair pay, fair working house, a ban on child labour and a ban on discrimination.
In 2017, Skageruk joined Amfori’s Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), where more than 2,000 European companies have agreed on a number of ethical guidelines based on principles from the OECD, UNGP and the UN Global Compact.
Through the BSCI’s Code of Conduct, Skagerak is involved in activities related to labour rights, the environment and anti-corruption.
One way in which Skagerak is working towards sustainability is through using wood that comes from forests which are managed in a responsible way. Today 85% of the wood that is used in Skagerak’s production is FSC-certified and their goal is to reach 100% by 2025.
In addition, Skagerak follows the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) from 2013, which ensures the wood used comes from legal sources.
Skagerak collaborate with both well-known designers as well as new design talent to create innovative and modern designs with Nordic inspired style.
