Solstickan Design - Tradingbox AB

Solstickan Design is operated by the company Tradingbox AB. Swedish Match Industries AB owns the Solstickan brand, and there is an exclusive licensing agreement between these companies. This license allows Tradingbox AB the authority to produce, reproduce, market, and sell goods under the Solstickan brand within Swedish trade.

A portion of the proceeds from sales goes to the Solstickan Foundation, which aims to assist children and elderly people in society.

Solstickan Foundation - Benefiting Children and the Elderly

The Solstickan Foundation was established in 1936 by the initiator Mathias Hallgren. By raising the price of matchboxes by half an öre, a portion of the funds could go to the foundation, which helped children with disabilities, vision and hearing impairments, rheumatism, and diabetes. Today, the foundation receives 5 öre per lighter and 9 öre per matchbox sold by Swedish Match in Sweden. Over the years, the foundation has distributed more than 100 million kronor.

What is the history behind the Solstickan Boy?

The Solstickan Boy was created by the artist Einar Nerman, who was commissioned to design the label for the matchbox. Today, the symbol is one of Sweden’s most well-known and most reproduced artworks.
