STOFF is the name of the brand behind the iconic Nagel candle holder created by architects and artists Werner Stoff and Hans Nagel, from 1965.
The STOFF Nagel candle holder was represented at the major world exhibitions for many years and, with its characteristic look, gives your home a luxurious touch and beautiful shine all year round.
Even when not in use, the STOFF Nagel candle holder becomes a decorative accessory in the living room.
Already 20 years before the candle holder came onto the market, the Nagel family sowed seeds for what would later become the final product. The idea began to sprout during the end of the second World War, when bombs stopped falling and the city of Cologne was emptied of the majority of residents.
In an attempt to create a future for the family, the four sons were sent out in the middle of the night to collect empty American cartridges, which were made of brass. Their father, who was a blacksmith in the village, could turn them into ashtrays, vases and candle holders. The four sons all came to share their father’s passion for design, but it was his son Hans who ran the family business.
Several years after the war, Hans Nagel met the architect and artist Werner Stoff in the Cologne design community. Together they started talking about how to implement their ideas. But it was only during a skiing holiday in the Alps that Hans came up with the idea that led to the design of the famous candle holder. When Hans Nagel fell in the snow while skiing, his fingerprints formed a pattern that inspired the later design of the popular candle holder.
The STOFF Nagel candle holder is available in the following colour editions:
In addition to their popular candle holders, here you can also find other products by STOFF that can be wonderfully combined with the candle holders, such as:
The STOFF Nagel candle holder has a unique modular design, allowing you to join separate pieces to compose your own individual sculpture. Remember to polish your candlestick regularly so that it retains its beautiful shine.
