TON is a furniture company that has been around for several generations. Each product is a craft created by at least 20 pairs of hands. Using traditional techniques to bend wood into new shapes and variations, the work continues from skilled craftsmen to sand, dye, assemble, oil, upholster, and package the products. TON heavily utilizes the technique of bending wood, which they believe is key to the furniture's strength. The furniture company maintains that beauty and strength are the foundation of timeless furniture. TON primarily offers tables, chairs, coat hangers, and decorations.
TON was founded in 1861 by Michael Thonet in Bystřice pod Hostýnem, Czech Republic. The factory, still in use today, is one of the oldest furniture factories in the world. Historically, the company has undergone several name changes. In 1953, the company was renamed TON, which stands for Továrna Ohýbaného Nábytku, meaning "Bent Furniture Company" in English. Today, the company is managed by CEO Milan Dostalík.
A fundamental cornerstone for TON is the focus on quality. The furniture company asserts that durability is a key concept because furniture that lasts for decades saves the environment from material and resource waste. TON quality tests its products throughout the production process and conducts multiple tests to meet EU sustainability standards.
By primarily using wood from certified and local sources, the company contributes to sustainable forestry, which in turn reduces carbon emissions. A fundamental view for TON is to act in an honest and friendly manner, both towards nature and people.
