When was the WMF brand founded?

In 1853 Straub & Schweizer metal works was established in Geislingen an der Steige in Germany by Daniel Straub and the brothers Louis and Friedrich Schweizer. They received a medal of distinction at the International Exhibition of 1862 in London, for their silver-plated serving dishes, cutlery and tableware.

The company merged with the metal works company Ritter & Co. and in 1880 they formed the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, WMF.
