Vivid colours and romantic patterns, the Danish multimedia artist Bjørn Wiinblad has a style that is anything but traditionally Danish. Bjørn Wiinblad’s only desire was to use his creativity to spread as much joy to as many people as possible.
Bjørn Wiinblad graduated as a typist at the age of 17 years old but he soon realised that art was his real passion. Inspired by the story, ’Arabian Nights’ he began to design different ceramic objects with patterns from the imaginative stories. During his long career, he created everything from porcelain to scenography and complete hotel interiors. He was a very hard working artist who got swept away in his creations. His work gave him new energy and often generated new, crazy ideas.
Women were a constant theme in Bjørn Wiinblad’s art and he is perhaps most famous for his ’blomsterflickor’ or ’flower girls.’ The women are given beautiful names like Eva, Cecilia, Boletter and all have different personalities, reflected in their wild hair, pointed noses and shaped ears. In short, they epitomise Bjørn Wiinblad and his crazy ways.
