After the completion of his studies at the Aalto University in Finland, Heikki Orvola was offered a job by Kaj Franck at the glasswork Notsjö Nuutajärvi. After his time there he worked for numerous classic Scandinavian design brands including Arabia, Iittala and Marimekko. Heikki Orvola has created numerous popular glass designs where he has experimented with different techniques and colors, but he is probably most known for his popular mass-produced glass and ceramic designs.
Some of his most popular designs include the Kivi candle holder and the beautiful 24 h porcelain range which was originally designed for his own use. Today the 24 h range is used as a base range for many beautiful décor designs.
Throughout all those years, Heikki Orvola and Kaj Franck were close friends and Orvola was asked to manage Francks design legacy. It was therefore Orvola that made the finishing touches and last decisions when it came to developing and expanding Franck’s Teema porcelain range.
Heikki Orvola has won numerous awards, including the Pro Finlandia medal and the Kaj Franck price.
