The graphic designer Laina Koskela is primarily known for her "Elefantti" pattern- the adorable elephant that children of all ages fall in love with.
Laina Koskela was born in Peräseinänjoki, Finland and studied art at several different schools, including at the University of Industrial Arts in Helsinki. In 1969, Laina Koskela participated in a design contest that laid the foundation for her career. It was here that she drew the iconic "Elefantti" pattern. She did not win the competition but Finlayson bought her designs and over the years she has produced everything from pillow cases to pots with the cute design.
Today, Laina Koskela works as a freelance designer. She finds inspiration for her patterns from people, myths, dreams and memories of childhood. Since her youth, Finnish forests have been the source of Laina Koskela's creativity.
