Sami Ruotsalainen

The Finnish designer Sami Ruotsalainen began his work for Marimekko in 2001 and is today one of the designers in Marimekko’s creative design team. Sami Ruotsalainen is the designer behind the iconic Oiva range. Today the Oiva range is used as the base for all of Marimekko’s porcelain ranges.

Sami Ruostalainen graduated from the Aalto University in Finland, specializing in ceramics and glass. He has an exquisite feel for material and form, and his designs are exclusively characterized by clean, strong lines. When the Oiva range was launched in 2009, the unique, yet simple design of the mugs, plates and bowls were an immediate success. Today the range is available with a number of different patterns and colors.
