Depending on the type of frying pan you have, the care advice will differ but here are some general tips and tricks to help your frying pan last through many delicious cooking opportunities.
A stainless-steel frying pan is one of the easier frying pans to clean as they can be washed in a dishwasher, but the best way to clean your stainless-steel frying pan for longer life is still to wash it by hand in hot water. It is perfectly possible to use washing liquid for this frying pan and should there be stubborn stains left, you can always try to clean it with vinegar as previously mentioned.
A coated, non-stick, frying pan is easy to clean thanks to the coated surface that protects the food from sticking. Like a stainless-steel frying pan, a non-stick frying pan can be washed in a dishwasher, but the best results are obtained by hand washing and a mild detergent. Remember to only use wooden, silicone or plastic kitchen utensils when frying and cleaning a non-stick pan so as not to damage the coating.
When a cast iron frying pan is seasoned properly with cooking oil, which forms a protective layer, it is very important that you only clean it with hot water and a dish brush - no detergent. A cast iron pan must therefore not be washed in a dishwasher, but you can use steel wool or a wire brush to clean it with if you have stains that cannot be removed with water only.
To season (or re-season) your cast iron frying pan:
A copper frying pan is similar to stainless-steel in that you can wash it by hand with detergent or in the dishwasher. However, keep in mind that a copper frying pan can change colour over time due to overheating or being placed too often in the dishwasher. However, a little salt and vinegar comes in handy to polish your copper and remove discoloration.
A good frying pan works wonders for the joy of cooking in the kitchen and can make you go from amateur to master chef in no time. Therefore, invest in a quality frying pan and if you take good care of it, it will accompany you on many future culinary experiences!
