NJRD (pronounced "Njord") is a Swedish brand that has brought fresh energy to the world of Scandinavian design since its launch in 2020. At its creative helm are the award-winning design duo Bernadotte & Kylberg, whose expertise and design pedigree have shaped the brand's vision since the beginning.
Both Carl Philip Bernadotte and Oscar Kylberg share a solid foundation in design education. They studied at Forsberg’s, a renowned graphic design school in Stockholm—albeit at different times. Bernadotte further honed his craft at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design in the United States, while Kylberg gained extensive experience as a Creative Director for both Swedish and international brands.
Since joining forces in 2012, Bernadotte & Kylberg have created iconic designs for renowned brands, both in Sweden and abroad. Their portfolio includes standout pieces such as the Helix collection for Georg Jensen, the Stockholm collection for Stelton, and collaborations with Skultuna. They even designed an exclusive suite at the famous Icehotel in Sweden.
The duo’s design language is a blend of modern, graphic elements with a deep respect for Scandinavian design traditions. These qualities are integral to the NJRD aesthetic, making each product a harmonious balance of contemporary style and timeless heritage.
Meet the designers behind NJRD - Oscar Kylberg and Carl Philip Bernadotte.
The Bernadotte & Kylberg mission is to create unique and long-lasting design pieces that are both functional and timeless. By allowing each products purpose to govern the aesthetics of their design they manage to keep their primary focus on the user of their products. They believe it is their job as designers to not only question how a product will look but also how it will be used. A beautiful product is after all useless if it is not fit for purpose. Durability is key to NJRD, using high quality materials such as New Zealand wool and recycled cotton, that are well considered, ensuring that their products will be with you for generations to come. Their inspiration for NJRD is drawn, not only from the colours of the Scandinavian nature that surrounds them in their home country of Sweden but also from a desire to pay homage to the Scandinavian lifestyle and design culture that precedes them, creating products that feel modern but with deep roots.
The aim is very much to create collections and products that are relevant and usable but remain personal as well as innovative.
Monochrome graphic shapes meet tactile textures in NJRD’s first two collections.

Since its launch, NJRD has introduced four distinctive collections, each reflecting its Scandinavian roots while offering modern design appeal.
Shapes Collection (2020) The debut Shapes Collection draws inspiration from the Scandinavian landscape, lifestyle, and design heritage. Its graphic lines and geometric forms evoke the region’s natural beauty and cultural history, creating pieces that seamlessly blend boldness and simplicity.
Edges Collection (2021) A year later, NJRD unveiled the Edges Collection, a refined evolution of Shapes. While Shapes celebrates contrasting and complementary colours, Edges embraces a more monochromatic palette. This collection emphasizes structural and tactile elements, inviting users to engage with the products in new ways.
VIOR Collection (2024) With VIOR, NJRD marks their evolution into furniture. Named after the Norse word for “wood,” VIOR inspires meaningful conversations and cherished moments with loved ones. Combining the warmth of oak with organic, inviting forms, VIOR integrates a sense of togetherness into every piece.
ASPEKT Collection (2024) If VIOR represents NJRD’s next chapter, ASPEKT is a natural extension of the brand’s DNA. A collection of wool rugs that mark a shift away from the linear perspectives of previous collections to urban silhouettes inspired by modern life. Featuring a clear colour schemes and thoughtful material choices, ASPEKT showcases NJRD’s ability to reimagine Scandinavian design for today’s world.
VIOR is NJRD’s tribute to “The Scandinavian Moment,” designed to create a natural gathering place for family and friends. It celebrates meaningful connections, fostering good times and heartfelt conversations around the table. This thoughtfully crafted series centres on dining, featuring dining tables and chairs designed with soft, inviting shapes, high seating comfort, and natural materials. In a nod to Scandinavian tradition, VIOR also includes a kitchen sofa—a piece once common in Nordic homes but now rarely seen. Its inclusion reflects NJRD’s commitment to blending heritage with modern functionality, offering a space where togetherness takes centre stage.
NJRD offers a versatile range of rugs across its Shapes, Edges, and ASPEKT collections. From plush New Zealand wool rugs to lightweight, washable terry cotton bathroom mats, there’s a design for every room and lifestyle. Add bold monochromatic style to your living room with the Edges collection, embrace geometric elegance with ASPEKT, or opt for a durable kilim rug perfect for high-traffic areas. NJRD rugs combine functionality and timeless Scandinavian design to elevate any space.
The first NJRD piece, the Metric Focus No. 1 recycled cotton throw, paved the way for a growing range of recycled cotton and wool throws in various colours. Perfect for cosy evenings or outdoor gatherings, these throws add warmth and a touch of Scandinavian charm.
For the beach or bath, the Stripes bath towel collection in 100% organic cotton offers softness, absorbency, and a modern design inspired by the Swedish coastline. Whether hung in the bathroom or draped over a deck chair, these towels embody the essence of Scandinavian living.
The Lines porcelain collection by NJRD is a minimalist and tactile series crafted from durable vitro porcelain, designed to stand the test of time. Each piece features a striking contrast between its matte exterior and glossy inner edge, offering visual intrigue and a satisfying texture.
