Joanna has decorated her children's room with cosy lighting, lovely textiles and playful details. All to create a cosy children's room that invites play.
An inspiring children's room should invite play and mischief, but at the same time be a room for quiet moments and relaxation. According to Joanna, the room should feel cosy and welcoming, and to achieve this you should focus on textiles, atmospheric lighting and practical storage for all the clutter. But don't forget to ask your children what they want as children always have their own ideas!
To create a stylish and cosy children's room, check out these five tips:
Atmospheric lighting is essential when decorating your children's room to create that perfect cosy feeling! Use 3-5 different light points to create balance and harmony in the room. Good general lighting is needed, especially lamps that can be turned and rotated. They're perfect for crafting or reading.
- "The cloud lamp from ferm LIVING is one of my favourite details in our child's room. It's stylish to look at, while also playful and practical for all those cosy reading moments," says Joanna.
Atmospheric lighting is a must have accessory in any children's room.

Cosy textiles are the perfect accessory for a children’s room for those quiet moments like reading before bedtime. Pick a theme together with your child and decorate with details that reflect the child's interests to bring joy and curiosity. Choose textiles with patterns that you know your child likes. This will create an additional sense of security and interest for them to spend a lot of time in their room. Textiles, curtains and a large, cosy rug will also help to reduce the noise level.
One of Joanna’s top tips is to decorate with warm neutrals as a base and then add colourful accents and work with themes to create a common thread throughout the children's room.
- "Both my daughter and I love the bedding from Ferm Living with cute little pears on it. The quality is fantastic and it really feels like sleeping on clouds. My little daughter, who previously did not sleep well in her own bed, now sleeps whole nights there. Maybe it has something to do with the luxurious duvet cover," Joanna says with a smile.

Storage is an important accessory in any children’s room as it is often difficult to keep things in order. An easy way to keep things tidy is with practical storage in the form of baskets, hooks and shelves. Storage in natural materials such as wood and wicker are practical and stylish and the neutral tones mean that no matter how your child chooses to decorate their room the storage can stay.
- The hook strip from Kid's Concept is my favourite detail in the children's room when it comes to storage. It is both practical and stylish and is perfect for hanging storage baskets, clothes or other nice things. It's like storage and decoration in one," says Joanna.

A children's room is often an all-in-one type of space, somewhere for playing, crafting, reading and learning. Playful home accessories are a natural part of that space to delight children and grown up alike.
Choose a calming, neutral colour for the walls but add pops of colour and cute details that create interest and invite play. Keeping the furniture clean and uncluttered means you will not need to change it as your child grows and also allows the accessories to pop.
