The bedroom should be a place where you find peace. Then it is important to give yourself the conditions for you to do just that. For me, it is important that my bedroom feels cosy and reflects my personality. And who am I? My name is Hannes Mauritzson and here are my ten tips on how to create a cosy bedroom you can enjoy!
Soft furnishings and textiles are the obvious basis for any cosy bedroom. A lovely rugs to rest your feet on after a long day and good quality bed linen to snuggle up in are excellent first steps. Why not add a cosy throw to the bed for when the temperature drops? Work with layers upon layers!
Soft textiles are the obvious basis for a cosy bedroom - Velvet wool throw from Klippan Yllefabrik in the shade avocado.
The lighting in a room is the basis for how the rest of the interior is perceived. If you have a light source that gives a calm glow, the nearby details are perceived similarly. Therefore, place a smaller table lamp in the window, together with other beautiful details that can form a calming, focal point for the eye to land on. Perfect for those who want to end the day with a good book in hand and at the same time unwind with dim lighting.
In the bedroom, the bed is obviously what catches the eye at first. Therefore, make the bed an inviting place with a cosy blanket, a stylish bedspread and beautiful details that frame the bed and create a real focal point. The bedspread and throw from Scandi Living are perfect for just that little extra.
The trick to successfully creating your own oasis of calm is to bring green plants or cut flowers into the room. Place a larger houseplant in your favourite pot on the floor or treat yourself to the season's most beautiful flowers and place in a beautiful vase on the bedside table. Who doesn't want to go to bed and wake up next to a summer meadow?
Place small personal details in your bedroom & group lanterns in different designs for a beautiful arrangement in the room!
What really binds a cosy bedroom together are the smaller details! Do you have any books or magazines at home that you are tired of? Stack them on the windowsill or on your bedside table and add beautiful details on top.
To really up the cosiness factor you can’t do better than a warming shimmer bouncing off the walls on a rainy morning. Candlelight is hard to beat. Group candle holders and lanterns in different designs and colours to create a beautiful arrangement that also fulfils an important function at the time of the day when darkness falls. The Calore lanterns from Byon look beautiful grouped in different sizes.
Tip no. 7 – make your bed with cosy, good quality bedding!
The feeling of getting into a bed with soft and fluffy bedding that hugs your body after a long day is hard to beat. It is therefore worth investing in good quality bedding such as the Icons Pin Point duvet cover from Lexington that you can enjoy for a long time. Good for your wallet and the environment!
It is no wonder that the traditional Scandinavian colour scale is becoming more and more popular around the world. The understated colours create a beautiful backdrop in the room where the details really get the chance to shine. Therefore, feel free to add smaller decorations with more colour to break up the neutrality, for example with a beautiful vase.
Textiles, plants, moody lighting & personal details - create a cosy bedroom you want to stay in!
Add a touch of luxury to your bedroom at the weekend with breakfast in bed! Once you have decorated your room you'll never want to leave.
There are many ways to decorate a cosy bedroom, but one of the most common mistakes people make is not considering the size of the room when decorating it. If you have a smaller bedroom, a good guideline is to invest in few but larger interior details so that the room is not perceived as smaller than it actually is. If, on the other hand, you have a larger bedroom, you want to group smaller details to build larger arrangements to draw the eye around the room. For example, place smaller vases, candle lanterns and sculptures together in beautiful harmony.
Use a neutral colour scheme in the bedroom and your details will stand out all the more!
What makes a home so fantastic is the opportunity to express yourself however you want and create something that reflects you - because surely it would be boring if we were all the same? Therefore, bring in something that characterizes you for the final touch in your cosy bedroom. A painting you bought on one of your travels, something you inherited or had in your possessions for a long time. Only your imagination sets the limits!
Who wouldn’t want to cuddle up here after a long day?
Having a cosy bedroom to start the day in is priceless. It's where we get the energy to take on a new day and do it all over again. I therefore hope that some of these tips will help you create the cosy bedroom of your dreams, here they are again:
