How to make an Easter tree

If you think decorated trees are just for Christmas think again! Easter trees are common in parts of northern Europe and Scandinavia is no exception. Here in Sweden the Easter tree is known as the Påskris. Decorated with colourful feathers and decorative eggs the Easter tree makes the perfect centrepiece for your Easter table. Here are our tips to help you create your own.

1. Choosing the right base for your Easter tree

The basis of every Easter tree is the branches. Traditionally, willow catkins, birch or forsythia branches are used, which not only look beautiful but also symbolise spring. Maybe you prefer to bring in a pop of colour? Then opt for cherry blossom or magnolia branches with their beautiful array of flowers. The most important aspect is to ensure the branches are strong enough to support the decorations.

Which branches for the Easter tree?

  • Willow catkins: classic, long-lasting and easy to care for
  • Forsythia: add a pop of bright yellow colour to your decoration
  • Cherry blossoms: create a romantic, spring-like atmosphere

2. Select the right vase for your Easter tree

Naturally, th choice of vase has an influence on the overall look of your Easter tree. Tall, narrow vases are ideal for long-stemmed branches, while a wider vase will offer more volume and stability. Natural materials such as ceramic, glass or earthenware go particularly well with the Scandinavian style.

Which vase suits your style?

Consider the size and shape of your vase is going to affect the way your branches hang. A tall, narrow vase for example is going to encourage the branches to stand more upright whereas a wider, round vase allows the branches to spread out. You might also want to think about the colour, do you want a bright and colourful vase for an eye catching centerpiece or something more subtle that melts into the background with the rest of your decor.

3. Use colours and decoration to make your Easter tree stand out

The choice of colours depends on the style of your Easter decorations. Natural, soft colours such as cream, beige or pastel green look subtle and Scandinavian, for something more playful you can work with delicate shades of pink, yellow or blue.

Decorative elements for your Easter tree:

  • Easter eggs: painted, coloured or made from natural materials such as wood or ceramic
  • Bows and feathers: Bright coloured feathers or bows are common on a Scandinavian Easter tree
  • Figures: small bunnies or chicks make charming additions round the base of the Easter tree

4. How to keep your Easter tree looking its best

To ensure that your Easter tree stays fresh over the Easter holidays, follow these easy care tips:

  • Cut the branches at an angle and change the water regularly
  • Place flowering branches in a bright, but not directly sunny spot
  • Protect dried flowers and eucalyptus from moisture so that they stay beautiful for a long time<br>

An Easter tree brings freshness, colour and a festive atmosphere into your home. With the right branches, decorative elements and a matching vase, you can realise your own personal style. Let your creativity run wild and design an Easter tree that perfectly matches your Easter decorations!
