STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO BUILDING A CHAMPAGNE TOWER

  • The trick to a magnificent champagne tower is to use as many champagne glasses and build as many tiers as possible! It is important that the glasses are round coupe glasses and are all the same height so that the tower stands firmly.
  • Build your champagne tower on a base that is stable and resistant to spills. Here we used The Loop mirror from House Doctor, which reflected the glasses beautifully, but you can also use a tray.
  • A champagne tower is built by creating different layers with a larger layer on the base and then gradually reducing the number of glasses in each proceeding layer.
  • Stack the glasses tightly so you get a diamond-shaped opening between the top of the glasses on the first layer. Then continue to build the next layer by placing the glasses in the middle of the diamond-shaped opening. This tower consists of 12 glasses at the bottom, followed by the structure 7-3-1 but you can of course make the tower larger or smaller depending on your needs.
  • Keep building until you have the last glass left that can sit on top (remember you will need to work out the ratios first so you know how many glasses to put in each tier).
  • Finally gather everyone around the table before you start filling the glasses - no one wants to miss this!

Carefully pour champagne into the top glass and watch as the bubbles flow down - glass by glass!

Make sure your guests are gathered for the moment you pour the champagne, they aren't going to want to miss it!

Tips Your champagne glasses needn’t be exactly the same, as long as they are the same height.

As long as the glasses are the same height you can use whatever glasses you have on hand to build your champagne tower. Mix and match for an eclectic look!

Tips: Consider how many glasses you will need. For a four tier champagne tower we started with a base of 12 glasses, then seven, then three and one on the top, but for a celebration with a large number of guests you’ll need to think about the ratios or build more than one tower!

OUR 3 TOP TIPS FOR BUILDING YOUR CHAMPAGNE TOWER

  • Build the tower where you want it to stand for the rest of the evening – you don’t want to move it when it is done!
  • A mirror under the tower reflects the glasses beautifully but the most important aspect for the base is that it must be able to withstand spills.
  • Consider how many bottles of bubbly you will need – a champagne tower like this requires quite some bubbles! Now you are ready to welcome everyone to this year’s biggest New Year’s party – Cheers!
