PH 5 MINI pendant lamp monochrome comes to us from the Danish brand Louis Pulsen. Just as the name suggests, this is the smaller variant of the iconic PH 5 pendant lamp by Poul Henningsen. Made of matte lacquered aluminium, the screens as well as the supporting struts are completely solid in colour, hence the name monochrome. The stylish screens ensure a completely glare-free light, rendering the PH 5 an ideal fixture over a smaller dining table or in a cosy reading nook. The ceiling lamp emits light downwards and at gentle sidewards angles as a brilliant illuminative detail. Designed by Poul Henningsen, each of the three screens adds to the luminescent display — the topmost shade angles the light downwards while the others shades emit a soft, ambient glow. The lamp is based on Hennigsen’s iconic three-screen system that was first designed in 1925–1926 in collaboration with Louis Poulsen: they were originally part of the initial PH lamps unveiled at an exhibition in Paris. In conceiving the PH collection of lamps, Hennigsen took a scientific perspective, incorporating natural shapes and geometries in its design. The ascending shades have been constructed in the form of a logarithmic spiral, an iconic mathematical sequence that appears in nature. The resulting design not only looks stylish but also provides an even distribution of coverage over the entire curve of each screen.
