The popular Räsymatto tea cup was designed by Sami Ruotsalainen and Maija Louekari for the Finnish design brand Marimekko. Marimekko is known for giving their products and collections Finnish names. And even though any non-Finn may struggle to pronounce them, when translated, they shed some light on where inspiration for the designs was taken from. “Räsymatto”, for instance, means rag rug – and the imperfect dotted design is inspired by the knots of a classic rag rug. A classic Marimekko design that is popular around the world!
