Paper napkin with Marimekko's iconic Unikko pattern. Unikko means 'poppy' in Finnish, which is precisely what the abstract floral pattern on the napkin represents. Maija Isola designed the pattern in 1964 as a protest against the fact that Marimekko's founder Armi Ratia had stated that Marimekko would never produce anything with a floral pattern. Unikko has therefore come to symbolise strength, courage and that you should always believe in yourself.
