The Unikko towel from Marimekko features a gorgeous backdrop in soft white that contrasts nicely with the dark blue flowers of the classic Unikko design. The iconic pattern was originally designed by Maija & Kristina Isola in 1964 after Marimekko's founder, Armi Ratia, announced an all-out ban on floral patterns. Despite this, Maija Isola managed to persuade her otherwise with this stylized depiction of majestic poppy flowers — thus, the Unikko pattern was born. Since that time, the distinctive design has become something of a signature pattern for Marimekko, and a well-loved aesthetic by many all over the world.
